This demo was brought to me by Nicodamien of the Hungarian Stoner blog stoner.blog.hu. Thank you for that, Nicodamien! Urania is a Stoner/Space Rock band from Hungary. I can't say much about this band, because there is nothing to find about them, no website, no MySpace or whatever. The only thing about Urania is here. What I can say about this demo is that it is an excellent piece of work. This demo contains eight tracks and they're simply are named I till VIII. These tracks are a display of superb Instrumental Stoner/Space Rock that is performed by Urania. This demo is definitely worth a listen. Urania jest space-stonerowym zespołem z Węgier. Nie mogę o nich zbyt dużo powiedzieć ponieważ ciężko jest znaleźć cokolwiek. Nie mają strony internetowej, MySpace’a ani czegokolwiek w tym stylu. Trzeba przyznać, iż ich demo to kawał świetnej roboty. Zawiera osiem utworów zatytułowanych cyframi od I do VII. Te tracki są świetnymi stonerowo-spacerockowymi instrumentalami. Zdecydowanie zasługują na przesłuchanie. Polecamy!
O tym zespole nie będę się jeszcze rozpisywał. Napiszę tylko że pochodzą z Polski, grają psychodelicznego garage-owego rocka i jestem ich fanem. Zespół Rachael wrzucił wreszcie nowy utwór na myspace-a Burn Slowly and See który możecie potraktować jako przystawkę. Dlaczego jako przystawkę? Bo już w środę udostępnią do ściągnięcia za free nową EPkę "Add a little bit of tobacco", która znajdzie się na naszym blogu!

I will not write too much about this band for now. I will write only that they are from Poland, playing psychedelic garage-rock and I'm fan of theirs. Napisałbym, że to mieszanka dusznego, kabalistycznego grania, ale nie o rejony azji zachodniej tu chodzi. A może właśnie tak, tylko nie do końca jestem tego świadom. Przede mną dosłownie i w przenośni „the cult of dom keller” - eksperyment muzyczny z wielkiej brytanii. Od razu napiszę, że każdy kawałek tego albumu rozpoczyna zabójczy wstęp i nie ukrywam, że to zachęca do zanurzenia się w ten projekt coraz dalej… i dalej. Do tego stopnia, że gdy w winampie po spindrift (słuchałem songs from a ancient age z 2007 roku) rozpoczęły się dźwięki otwierającego płytę intro for the sun, pomyślałem, że muzyka przybrała wreszcie taką formę jakiej czekałem od dłuższego czasu. Zupełnie wyleciało mi z głowy, że tuż po wspomnianym spindrift, chyba bezwarunkowo, dodałem do playlisty „the cult of dom keller”. Już w pierwszym utworze słychać wokalne echolalie - mroczne pozdrowienia wyrzucane bardziej do księżyca niż do słońca (na co wskazywałby tytuł). Wszystko to nieśpieszne, podbijane przez jeden gitarowy akord, zdradzający symptom muzycznego nawiedzenia. W tym miejscu powinienem napisać coś w tym stylu, że im dalej słucham tych dźwięków tym ciekawiej się robi. Po trosze będzie to prawdą, bo każdy kolejny ton jest łapczywie wychwytywany przez moje ucho, chociaż nie zaciera on wrażenia tego co było przed chwilą. Wszystko toczy się niby w podobnym klimacie, choć cały czas jest nieco inaczej. W goat skin dream następuje ciekawa zmiana nastroju, stworzona przez wyizolowany od świata kabaret, którego słucha garstka osób. Wokalista po zażyciu sporej ilości psychodelicji, gdzieś tak od połowy utworu, potrafi już tylko iść po śladach świdrującej gitary. Pod stopami ma piasek i wijące się węże. mam wrażenie, że ta mroczna groteska rozgrywa się w kościele. Albo jest to misterium na przystanku autobusowym w środku kukurydzianego pola. W ogóle płyta ta ma coś z rockowego szabasu. Świetny doomfoot – marszowy, trochę za krótki. Genialne wejście w into the sky volcano, muliste harmonie; jakby przesterowany sitar i na to nałożony brudny dźwięk garażowej gitary. Jakieś tonalne i wokalne wygibasy. A to zaledwie wstęp do ostatniego na płycie beyond burning skies. Po raz drugi mam niewyraźne skojarzenia z pewną surfową kapelą, której nazwa tu nie padnie… po pierwsze dlatego, że to tylko pojedyncze motywy, po drugie „the cult…” ciągnie bardziej w rejony psychodeliczne. Na koniec zostawiłem czwarty w kolejności godshaker. Jest głośniejszy, nieco drapieżniejszy i dłuższy od pozostałych utworów. Przede wszystkim jest pozbawiony partii wokalnych. nic poza bębny, shoegazowe gitary i gdzieniegdzie klawisze (czy dobrze nadstawiam słuch?). Dynamika prowadzi do przyjemnych konwulsji – ten utwór komasuje trans z całej płyty, ukazując najbardziej rockowy pazur zespołu… tak minęło mi blisko 20 min. Z ep 1 tego kwartetu. wszystkie pozytywne wrażenia powyżej. Minusy – długość trwania materiału, aż się prosi, by utwory trwające nieco powyżej minuty (jest ich trzy) zostały rozwinięte jako pełnowymiarowe kompozycje. Jeżeli czegoś im brakuje, to właśnie odpowiedniej do podtrzymania nastroju długości. _____________________________________________________________
Here’s in front of me, literally and figuratively “Cult of Dom Keller” – experimental music from this new band from Great Britain. I get a feeling from much of this music, a feeling of Asiatic influences throughout the EP’s songs. First of all, I will write that each track of this EP has a killer opening and I will not hide, it makes me want to dip in this project deeper…and deeper, to a great extent. After I played Spindrift in my Winamp player (I was listening to their songs released way back in 2007!), the sounds of first track on the EP are “Intro for the Sun”. I thought, now, THIS is music I have been waiting for, for a long time! I had completely forgotten that I added to my playlist “Cult of Dom Keller”, so I was surprised at the amazing difference in sounds from Spindrift’s sound. In the first song you can hear vocal echoes – dark greetings thrown more to the moon than to the sun (as the title hints). Everything is deliberately boosted by one guitar, a sound that gets bigger and bigger on that guitar. At this point, the song gets even more interesting. My ears are completely enthralled. All the sounds I hear are similar, yet I can detect differences that make the songs intriguing. Goat Skin Dream is followed by an interesting change of atmosphere, so different from what the masses are used to listening to. This music is special: it’s different, tribal, intriguing. The vocalist sounds like he’s taking some incredible trip on psychedelics. Under his feet he’s got sand and writhing snakes. The guitar sounds make me think I’m in the trip with him! I see visions, and I have feelings from The Cult of Dom Keller’s music, that this dark, grotesque trip took place in a church or at some mysterious bus station in the middle of a cornfield! I love this trip! This EP has a bit of harder rock, too, like what Black Sabbath might play. Doomfoot has a marching rock beat, but ends too quickly. Into the Sky erupts like a volcano, then uses muddy harmonics, something like a sitar in overdrive paired with the dirty sound of garage guitar. Beyond Burning Skies is a huge psychedelic trip towards the end of the EP. Godshaker, is louder, grasping a hold of me, and longer than the other songs. No vocals, just tribal drums, shoegaze guitars, and some keyboards accents, I think, if I hear correctly! This track connects all the other songs, and keeps the trance going, and I am surprised the 20 minutes of the EP are over! All positive impressions I get from this music is above. Weaknesses: the length of the songs could be longer, with their grand psychedelic aspirations. Maybe the band can further develop their short songs as a full-size compositions for an album. If anything is missing, it is just right length of the songs to keep up the mood.
Memphis Graham was a band from Chicago, Illinois, USA. Five guys, extremely talented, got together for a short time a few years ago and decided to make an album. They chose the fantastic name Memphis Graham, recorded an eleven-song album, played some gigs around town, and not long after their inception, they split. A buddy of mine, a musician himself from Chicago, had told me about Memphis Graham, got me their music back in mid 2009, and kept me updated on what they were doing. Unfortunately, those updates stopped pretty quickly, as the band called it quits so the young men could concentrate on other things, like University. Oh well, at least they left us with this ONE great album, which takes major influences from The Brian Jonestown Massacre's signature sound of jangly psychedelic guitar rock, shaking tambourines, and retro vocal stylings.

Memphis Graham był zespołem pochodzącym z Chicaco, Ilinois, USA. Pięciu niezwykle utalentowanych gości parę lat temu zebrało się na krótko i postanowili nagrać album. Wybrali fantastyczną nazwę: Mephis Graham. Zarejestrowali 11 utworów, pograli trochę koncertów w mieście i niedługo po powstaniu zespół się rozpadł. Mój kumpel, muzyk z Chicago, powiedział mi o Memphis Graham, dał ich muzykę jakoś w 2009 i informował mnie co się u nich dzieje. Niestety te informacje skończyły się dosyć szybko, kapela ogłosiła koniec działalności, bo chłopaki chcieli się skupić na innych rzeczach, takich jak studia. Przynajmniej zostawili jeden świetny album inspirowany The Brian Jonestown Massacre, rockowopsychodelicznymi gitarami, tamburynem, wokalami w stylu retro.
Pobierzcie album tutaj i dajcie nam znać co o nim myślicie!
This outstanding piece of work that was send to me by Brano of the band Manthra Dei. Thank you for that, Brano! Manthra Dei is an Instrumental Psychedelic trio from Brescia, Italy and this is their same titled debut EP. This EP contains two awesome tracks that both are around 18 minutes long. The guys of Manthra Dei are very good musicians. The guitar player is so damn good! And his playing is well complemented by the drummer and bassist. This band is very good with letting you get carried away with their music. This is the kind of music that I want to hear in a live performance! This EP brings me in a state of trance and in a state of euphoria! One funny thing: The start of the second track sounds a lot of Machine Gun by Jimi Hendrix. Enjoy!

Ten kawał niesamowitej muzyki wysłał mi Brano z zespołu Manthra Dei. Dziękuje Brano! Manthra Dei to instrumentalno psychodeliczne trio z Bresci, Włochy i to jest ich debiutancka epka. Zawiera ona 2 świetne utwory, które trwają ok. 18min. Goście z Mantra Dei są bardzo dobrymi muzykami. Gitarzysta jest rewelacyjny! Jego gra jest dobrze uzupełniana przez perkusistę i basistę. Ta kapela znakomicie daje się ponieść swojej muzyce. To jest właśnie ten rodzaj gędźby ,który chciałbym usłyszeć na żywo. Epka kojarzy mi się ze stanem transu i euforii. Jedna zabawna rzecz: Początek drugiego utworu brzmi jak „Machne Gun” Jimiego Hendrixa. Enjoy:P

This is the first post in what will be a recurring series for PSoC blog, an idea Maciej and I came up with while discussing how so many bands we love called it quits after just one amazing album. We named the series The Graveyard, for obvious reasons: the bands are now DEAD, but their memory lives on in the ONE album they gave to us music fans to enjoy forever. The Clean Prophets is the first band I want to spotlight in The Graveyard. The Clean Prophets was a three-piece band based in Los Angeles, California, USA, earlier this decade. The three members, Jerrold Balcom, Johnny Sleeper, and Giorgio Karambelas, all came from previous bands of the psychedelic genre of music, namely The Brian Jonestown Massacre, and The Superbees. They took their name from a song by The La's, beloved Brit-pop band by many, and recorded and self-released an 11 song album titled Praise Is Poison in 2007. Praise Is Poison does not sound at all like the previous bands the guys were in; instead it has its own gentle psych pop vibe to it, all the songs are mid-tempo, guitar-heavy tunes with lyrics that are far from boring and cliched. To jest pierwszy post który będzie wprowadzeniem do powtarzającej się serii dla PSoC bloga. Na pomysł wpadł Maciej i Ja podczas naszej dyskusji na temat tego jak wiele kapel które uwielbiamy kończy swoją karierę po nagraniu zaledwie jednego albumu. Nazwaliśmy tę serie The Graveyard (Cmentarzysko) z oczywistych powodów: Zespoły te już są MARTWE - rozpadły się, ale pamięć o nich żyje dalej w albumie, który dał nam, fanom muzyki możliwość czerpania przyjemności z nagrań an nim zawartych. The Clean Prophets jest pierwszym zespołem na który chciałam zwrócić uwagę w cyklu The Graveyard. The Clean Prophets był 3-osobowym zespołem założonym w Los Angeles, na początku tej dekady. Trzech członków zespołu: Jerrold Balcom, Johnny Sleeper i Giorgio Karambelas należało wcześniej do innych kapel które grają muzykę psychodeliczną czyli: The Brian Jonestown Massacre i The Superbees. Trio zapożyczyło nazwę z piosenki The La's, uwielbianej przez wielu Brit-popowej kapeli i wydało własnym sumptem krążek składający się z 11 utworów który zatytułowany został "Praise Is Poison", materiał wydano w 2007r. Praise Is Poison nie brzmi tak jak zespoły w których grali wcześniej jego autorzy. W zamian oferuje nam swoje delikatne psych-popowe brzmienie. Wszystkie utwory są grane w średnim tempie,ciężkie brzmienie gitar oraz teksty są dalekie od nudy i banału. Utwory są chwytliwe i urocze. Zapraszam was do sprawdzenia tego albumu tutaj:
