This outstanding piece of work that was send to me by Brano of the band Manthra Dei. Thank you for that, Brano! Manthra Dei is an Instrumental Psychedelic trio from Brescia, Italy and this is their same titled debut EP. This EP contains two awesome tracks that both are around 18 minutes long. The guys of Manthra Dei are very good musicians. The guitar player is so damn good! And his playing is well complemented by the drummer and bassist. This band is very good with letting you get carried away with their music. This is the kind of music that I want to hear in a live performance! This EP brings me in a state of trance and in a state of euphoria! One funny thing: The start of the second track sounds a lot of Machine Gun by Jimi Hendrix. Enjoy!

Ten kawał niesamowitej muzyki wysłał mi Brano z zespołu Manthra Dei. Dziękuje Brano! Manthra Dei to instrumentalno psychodeliczne trio z Bresci, Włochy i to jest ich debiutancka epka. Zawiera ona 2 świetne utwory, które trwają ok. 18min. Goście z Mantra Dei są bardzo dobrymi muzykami. Gitarzysta jest rewelacyjny! Jego gra jest dobrze uzupełniana przez perkusistę i basistę. Ta kapela znakomicie daje się ponieść swojej muzyce. To jest właśnie ten rodzaj gędźby ,który chciałbym usłyszeć na żywo. Epka kojarzy mi się ze stanem transu i euforii. Jedna zabawna rzecz: Początek drugiego utworu brzmi jak „Machne Gun” Jimiego Hendrixa. Enjoy:P

This is the first post in what will be a recurring series for PSoC blog, an idea Maciej and I came up with while discussing how so many bands we love called it quits after just one amazing album. We named the series The Graveyard, for obvious reasons: the bands are now DEAD, but their memory lives on in the ONE album they gave to us music fans to enjoy forever. The Clean Prophets is the first band I want to spotlight in The Graveyard. The Clean Prophets was a three-piece band based in Los Angeles, California, USA, earlier this decade. The three members, Jerrold Balcom, Johnny Sleeper, and Giorgio Karambelas, all came from previous bands of the psychedelic genre of music, namely The Brian Jonestown Massacre, and The Superbees. They took their name from a song by The La's, beloved Brit-pop band by many, and recorded and self-released an 11 song album titled Praise Is Poison in 2007. Praise Is Poison does not sound at all like the previous bands the guys were in; instead it has its own gentle psych pop vibe to it, all the songs are mid-tempo, guitar-heavy tunes with lyrics that are far from boring and cliched. To jest pierwszy post który będzie wprowadzeniem do powtarzającej się serii dla PSoC bloga. Na pomysł wpadł Maciej i Ja podczas naszej dyskusji na temat tego jak wiele kapel które uwielbiamy kończy swoją karierę po nagraniu zaledwie jednego albumu. Nazwaliśmy tę serie The Graveyard (Cmentarzysko) z oczywistych powodów: Zespoły te już są MARTWE - rozpadły się, ale pamięć o nich żyje dalej w albumie, który dał nam, fanom muzyki możliwość czerpania przyjemności z nagrań an nim zawartych. The Clean Prophets jest pierwszym zespołem na który chciałam zwrócić uwagę w cyklu The Graveyard. The Clean Prophets był 3-osobowym zespołem założonym w Los Angeles, na początku tej dekady. Trzech członków zespołu: Jerrold Balcom, Johnny Sleeper i Giorgio Karambelas należało wcześniej do innych kapel które grają muzykę psychodeliczną czyli: The Brian Jonestown Massacre i The Superbees. Trio zapożyczyło nazwę z piosenki The La's, uwielbianej przez wielu Brit-popowej kapeli i wydało własnym sumptem krążek składający się z 11 utworów który zatytułowany został "Praise Is Poison", materiał wydano w 2007r. Praise Is Poison nie brzmi tak jak zespoły w których grali wcześniej jego autorzy. W zamian oferuje nam swoje delikatne psych-popowe brzmienie. Jako, że ten blog jest poświęcony muzyce psychodelicznej, chyba nie muszę pisać co gra zespół Sky Picnic, prawda? Grupa pochodzi z Nowego Jorku, została założona przez Chrisa Shermana i Leah Cinnamon w 2007 roku. Do tej pory wydali kilka epkę Synesthesia i album Farther in this Fairy Tail, jednak, moim zdaniem, na uwagę zasługuje szczególnie ich długogrający debiut Farther in this Fairy Tail. Żeby być szczerym, na samym początku przyznam, że nie grają muzyki, której mogę słuchać na kolanach. Ich największym atutem jest co innego. Przyjemność. Przyjemność jaką czerpię słuchając tego zespołu. 9 utworów i 46 minut dźwięków kojących uszy słuchacza. Już rozpoczynające krążek Hide and Seek (moim zdaniem jeden z lepszych kawałków Sky Picnic) pokazuje czego będzie się można spodziewać. Nic tylko położyć się, zamknąć oczy i odpłynąć. Czasami człowiek potrzebuje takiego „odpoczynku” w towarzystwie muzyki (np. po przesłuchaniu epki Henryspenncer – patrz niżej). Drugim moim faworytem jest Universal Mind Decoder (moim zdaniem NAJLEPSZY numer Sky Picnic). Długi, bo ponad 12 minutowy utwór, totalnie psychodeliczny, totalnie niszczący, wspaniały. Wydaje mi się, że w wersji live musi urywać jaja. Reszta płyty też daje radę, ale te dwie kompozycje zdecydowanie się wyróżniają. Jakby nagrali cały album na poziomie Hide and Seek i Universal Mind Decoder wielbiłbym ich bezgranicznie, a tak mogę powiedzieć, że bardzo lubię. Sprawdźcie ich materiał. Cholernie warto, a dla moich asów nawet trzeba! POLECAM! Jeszcze dodam że zespół jakoś w styczniu lub lutym wyda nową epke. ___________________________________________________________
This blog is about psychedelic music so I don’t need to say what kind of music sky picnic plays, right? Band is from New York and was founded by Chris Sherman and Leah Cinnamon in 2007. Since then they have recorded an album and ep, however in my opinion, most attention is deserved by their full-length album Farther in this Fairy Tail. To be honest in the beginning it’s not music that I can listen on my feet. The biggest feeling is something else. Pleasure. Pleasure that I can take while I’m listening this band. 9 tracks and 46 minutes of calm, sooth sounds for ears. First track that opens album Hide and seek (in my opinion is the best track of Sky Picnic) shows what you can expect . Nothing to do but lie down, close your eyes and drift away. Sometimes people need to “rest” with music (eg, after hearing the ep Henryspenncer - see below). My second favorite is the Universal Mind Decoder (in my opinion the best! number Sky Picnic). Long, over a 12 minute track, totally psychedelic, totally devastating, wonderful. It seems to me that the live version has to tear off your balls. The rest of the album also can do the trick, but those two tracks definitely stand out. If they recorded whole album on level just like Hide and Seek and Universal Mind Decoder then I could say that I adore this band extremely but I will now say that I really like this band. You must check out their music. It is worth to check especially for my aces even you must! I highly recommend this band!

This little gem was already posted at my other place, Stoner Rock Is Here To Stay. Henryspenncer is an one-man project by Valentin from France. This guy plays some great Atmospheric Psychedelic Doom with Metal and even Americana influences. (Valentin knows how to play slide guitar!) According to MySpace Henryspenncer is inspired by the following: Neil Young's Dead Man, Titan, Grails, Six Organs Of Admittance, Metallica, Across Tundras, Kyuss, Barn Owl, Headdress, The Black Angels and Earth. The result is The Shelter Days, a free download EP that is truly great. It really has a creepy/sombre sphere. The music is some sort of indefinable, but it is awesome! You have to take my word for that. I guess you have to experience this EP for yourself. Enjoy these strange vibes! Valentin is working now on an album called To The Timeless Valley. It will be released soon!

Ten gość gra świetny atmosferyczny psychodeliczny doom z metalem i można w nim odnaleźć nawet wpływy z Americany. (Valentin wie jak grać na gitarze przy użyciu slide'u).Zgodnie z MySpace-em, Henryspencer czerpie inspiracje z kapel takich jak Neil Young's Dead Man, Titan, Grails, Six Organs Of Admittance, Metallica, Across Tundras, Kyuss, Barn Owl, Headdress, The Black Angels and Earth. Rezultatem jest The Shelter Days, darmowa epka do ściągnięcia która jest naprawdę niesamowita. Ma swoją bardzo niepokojącą stronę. Muzyka ta jest ciężka do zdefiniowania, ale pomimo to niesamowita. Musicie mi zaufać i doświadczyć sami tej epki. Valentin pracuje teraz nad nowym albumem The Timeless Valley który będzie wypuszczony już niedługo!
Pochodzą ze szkocji. Założeni przez braci Hughesów (obaj gitary i wokale) i Laurę O’brien (syntezatory i klawisze). Od razu napiszę, że ich muzyka przemyca coś z krajobrazu wysp. Debiutancką epkę wypełniają trzy długie i nieśpieszne kompozycje (dwie pierwsze trwają 17 min, a trzecia 5!) ta muzyka ciągnie się trochę jak droga, którą trzeba przebyć od domostwa do domostwa spacerując wrzosowymi łąkami. Wtedy to najlepszym sposobem na wypełnienie czasu jest snucie wyobrażeń. Wszystkie te dźwięki zdają się być bardzo swojskie, zasłyszane już gdzieś wcześniej a zarazem malowane własnymi barwami. Takie dziwne podwórko, które wtopiło się w krajobraz, mimo iż nad nim unoszą się skrzydlate koty. W the Point Between Heaven And Hell - pierwszym utworze na epce, w którym sam wstęp trwa blisko 5 minut, wyprawa z ziemskiej zamienia się w metafizyczną. Nie tylko za sprawą tekstu, ale przede wszystkim za sprawą instrumentarium. Przesterowane gitary zahaczają tu o delikatną psychodelię, a liryczny i zarazem melancholijny głos Gary’ego Hugheusa uzupełniają dziewczęce zaśpiewy laury O’brien. Warto dodać, że płeć żeńska to też partie skrzypiec i harmonijki. właśnie dociera do mnie, że ten spacer w chmurach wypełnia jakaś dziwna troska i specyficzne natężenie, które znika dopiero wraz z pierwszymi linijkami tekstu. Ulotność tego utworu sprawia, że 10 min. The Point Between… mija prawie niepostrzeżenie. Prawie, bo zostawia ciepłe, optymistyczne wrażenia. W drugim utworze: Truth or Consequence moją uwagę zwraca śpiew i przede wszystkim śpiew. Kołyszący i folkowy. Nie brak tu także bardzo wyważonej, epickiej i emocjonalnej rockowej jazdy, dzięki pojawiającym się tu i ówdzie charakterystycznym, ślizgającym i wibrującym partiom gitar. W Hiding in the Shadows miejsce basu zajmuje didgeridoo, albo gra tuż obok a gitary oddają pole sitarom. Wszystko do czasu, bo i tu jest miejsce na przestrzenne i wydłużone pociągnięcia pięciostrunowych instrumentów. Właśnie: przestrzenne, to dobre słowo, by określić zawartość Take The Ride. Przestrzenne sesje i rockowa psychodelia uzupełniana przez delikatny folk. Taka właśnie jest debiutancka epka tego zespołu. Zapętlam dźwięki Helicon w winampie. Dzisiaj i sądzę, że nie tylko dzisiaj szykuje się długi wieczór z tą muzyką…
They come from Scotland. A Band formed by the Hughes brothers (both guitar and vocal) and Laura O’Brien (synthesizer and keyboard). I must say that their music brings to your mind something about the UK landscape. Their debut EP consists of three long and slow compositions (the first two of them last for 17 minutes and the third one for 5 min.!). This music carries on like a road you have to walk between different homesteads, when wandering on heather meadows. Then the best way to kill time is to start dreaming. All the sounds seem familiar, like you’ve heard them before somewhere and at the same time they have a unique distinctive sound. Our journey is transformed into a metaphysical one with the first piece on the EP called ‘the point between heaven and hell’, in which the intro itself lasts for 5 minutes. Not only because of the lyrics, but mostly thanks to the instrumental section. The guitars sound a little psychedelic and the melancholic vocal of Gary Hugheus is completed by girly Laura O’Brien’s singing. I’d like to add that the violin and the harmonica are also female parts. It occurs to me now that this walk in the clouds is filled with some sort of weird concern and specific tension, which both disappear with the moment when the lyrics start. ‘The point between…’goes by almost without a notice…almost, because it leaves you with a warm, optimistic feeling. In the second piece ‘Truth or consequence’ the thing that drew my attention was the swinging, folky vocal. Thanks to the characteristic vibrating sound of slide guitar, it also doesn’t lack in epic, emotional rock ride. In ‘Hiding in the shadows’ the bass is replaced with didgeridoo or both instruments are played at the same time, and sitars take place of the guitars. Here, as well you’ll hear elongated spatial guitar sounds. Exactly, space is the word that came to my mind after hearing ‘Take the ride’. Spatial sessions and psychedelic rock completed by soft folk. That’s what Helicon’s debut EP’s like. I’m about to play Helicon right now, I guess I’m going to spend many long nights with their music.
Zespół wydał do tej pory swój debiutancki album zatytułowany "Sadness as a Gift". Znajdziecie na nim 11 kawałków, utrzymanych w zimnym klimacie takich utworów TBAL, jak "The God" czy "Rising end". Podczas pierwszego odsłuchania po całym ciele przechodziły mnie ciarki. Doświadczyłam melancholijnej muzyki, dźwięków skomponowanych w taki sposób, że przez długi czas nie mogłam oderwać się od brzmienia The Frozen Borderline. Najmocniejszymi według mnie punktami tego albumusą hipnotyzujące "As Cold as the moon",przygnębiający utwór "Return to timeless eyes", oraz zamykające album "Nothing belongs together". Całość przepełniona jest smutkiem, a poruszające teksty, mówiące o samotności, śmierci czy miłości, skłaniają do refleksji.

The Frozen Borderline is a side-project formed by Nils O. - the vocalist of a German band The Blue Angel Lounge.
The Frozen Borderline have already released their debut album called 'Sadness as a Gift'. There are 11 pieces you can find on it, all of them kept in the same cold vibe as TBAL's 'The God' or 'Rising End'. During the first listen I had goose bumps all over my body. I experienced melancholic music, composed in a way that made it impossible for me to get enough of their sound for a long time. In my opinion the best pieces on 'Sadness as a Gift' are the hypnotizing 'As cold as the moon', depressing 'Return to timeless eyes', and 'Nothing belongs together', the last song on this amazing album. The whole album is filled with sadness, and the moving lyrics about loneliness, death and love, provoke reflection.
